Notes from Down-Under

Australian FashionWeek has come to an end and we thought we might highlight a few of our favorite things. First, I must say, there is a lot of talent running threw the blood of those Aussie's, but only a few of them actually care to enter the U.S. market... I don't blame them...if they are doing well there, then by all means, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I just think that so many of these brands can really make a break through here...

Anyway, my favorite runway shows of Australian FashionWeek are those of the following:

Dhini:: who has some of the world's most amazingly tailored jackets...no, joke!

Akira:: fantastic embroidery and amazingly rich colors. He is a great designer!

Thurley:: if there was ever a line of perfect party dresses....this is it!!

On another note, Scanlon & Theodore (who did not participate) is a wonderful store and brand in Sydney that should think about joining us in the U.S of A...and think hard. When I visited their Sydney store...I was taken aback by how easy it was to wear everything in the store. The designs are inspired and the fabrics are rich...AND it's really not that expensive.

Then you have designer's like Collette Dinnigan who, time after time, give us the same thing in a different color or a different fabrication. She is all over the U.S. market, and I can't really see why. It is over priced and not that amazing... Collette does do the whole beaded gown thing well and if you were ever in need of a silk charmeuse dress (which I can't understand why you would ever truly need one)...she is your 'go to gal'!

We are familiar with Sass & Bide, which is an Aussie brand which has definitely entered the U.S. market in a big way...if you don't know who they are after their appearance on The Hills, then I can't really help you!
